Oud Hobbyist Association

The DRC Omani Oud Hobbyist Association was founded by royal orders of HM Sultan Qaboos bin Said—may God keep and preserve him—who issued royal directives on 28/11/2005 to create a dedicated association for oud enthusiasts. His Majesty’s aim was to nurture, showcase and hone the talents of oud players in Oman in support of the artistic movement in the country in general and oud music in particular, on a par with other artistic pursuits that have been supported and promoted by our judicious government.

The DRC Omani Oud Hobbyist Association was the first association of its kind in the entire Arab region. It created a new platform for this fine art and was the culmination of the insight of HM Sultan Qaboos bin Said—may God keep and preserve him—in attending to the arts in general and oud in particular and sponsoring artistic talent in various fields, including oud. Oud is a unique instrument, with a distinctive artistic character, that captured the interest of many singers and poets. It was the royal instrument of choice and a source of pride for whoever owned and played it.

The Omani Oud Hobbyist Association that was officially inaugurated on 02/11/2008 is located in South Al Hail Region that is affiliated to Seeb province. The region is more specifically located near Sultan Qaboos Street (Main Street).
